The Armor We Wear: Why “Fine” Isn’t Freedom
Hey friend,
Let’s be real for a second.
Most of us have a version of “armor” we wear every single day. It might look like a full face of makeup, a sarcastic sense of humor, or staying so busy you don’t have to sit with your thoughts.
Mine? It’s doing my hair, nails, and makeup. When I look put together, I feel like I can handle just about anything. And honestly, there’s nothing wrong with that - until the armor becomes the thing you hide behind.
Because sometimes “fine” isn’t freedom. It’s camouflage.
When "Fine" Becomes a Coping Mechanism
We say we’re fine because it’s easier than explaining the mess underneath.
We post the smile because people don’t know what to do with tears.
We keep performing confidence because we forgot what it feels like to actually feel it.
But here’s the truth: “fine” is often just survival mode with a coat of lipstick.
And survival mode isn’t living - it’s coping.
We wear our armor like a badge of honor, but sometimes it’s just a sign we’re tired of being hurt. Tired of being misunderstood. Tired of holding everything together while feeling like we’re falling apart inside.
The Thing About Armor
Armor isn’t bad. It’s protection.
But when it becomes your identity, it keeps you from healing.
That’s why healing often starts with discomfort - because taking off the armor feels vulnerable. It feels like standing in front of the mirror without all the “extras.”
And that’s scary.
But freedom doesn’t come from pretending everything’s okay. It comes from telling the truth - to yourself first.
The Real Work
The real work isn’t about ditching your makeup, your humor, or your to-do list. It’s about asking, what am I using this to protect?
Because when you start asking that question, you’ll realize your armor has stories - stories of hurt, disappointment, and fear.
And when you face those stories with honesty and grace, that’s when you stop performing confidence and start feeling it.
