Coming Off GLP-1s: What No One Tells You About the Rebound

September 18, 20252 min read

For years, I've been introducing myself on social media, as "Hey, I’m Cheryl Miller — your Jesus-loving, coffee-drinking, certified hot mess turned nutrition and wellness coach." And right now? I’m living in the hot mess part more than the coach part.

I've been off my GLP-1 supplement for about 10 days now, and let me tell you… the food noise came back like a wrecking ball. I’m talking standing in front of the fridge when I’m not even hungry. Craving all the things just because they’re there. And when I do eat? Nausea. Fun, right?

Nobody told me this part. Nobody talks about what it feels like when the appetite suppression wears off and you have to face food in the real world again. So, let’s talk about it.

The Reality of the Rebound

Here’s what I’ve noticed since coming off GLP-1s:

  1. The cravings are loud. It’s not hunger, it’s noise.

  2. The nausea lingers. My body still feels “off” when I eat more than a few bites.

  3. The guilt creeps in. I catch myself thinking, “What if I can’t handle this without the shot?”

Sound familiar? You’re not alone. This is the part no one tells you about.

What's Helping Me Navigate the Mess

I’m not through it, but here’s what’s been helping:

Grace > Guilt
I remind myself that cravings are normal. My body isn’t broken, it’s adjusting. And I don’t need to punish myself for feeling hungry.

Protein + Water
It sounds basic, but focusing on protein and hydration has kept me from spiraling. Even small wins add up.

Move, Don’t Obsess
When the food noise is loud, I get up and walk. Ten minutes on the treadmill. Jeep ride with my husband. Anything that shifts the focus.

Faith Check
When my body feels out of control, my faith reminds me I don’t have to be. God is steady even when my appetite isn’t

Why I'm Sharing This

Because maybe you’re there too. Maybe you’re trying to figure out life after GLP-1s. Maybe you’re wondering if you’ve “failed” because the cravings came back.

You haven’t failed. You’re just human. And the fact that you care enough to keep going? That’s the win.

So let’s stop pretending it’s easy. Let’s talk about the hard stuff. And let’s remind each other that confidence doesn’t come from a scale or a syringe — it comes from keeping promises to ourselves, one small step at a time.

💬 I’d love to hear from you: Have you come off GLP-1s (or any supplement) and felt the rebound? What helped you? Drop it in the comments - your story might be the encouragement someone else needs today.
